Complete World War I US Army Uniform

WWI First Division Corps of Engineers Sergeant
A complete original uniform of a WWI Corps of Engineers Sergeant (Indiana Division?). Lot consists of : 1)"Dough boy" Metal Hat with the number one insignia in yellow, 2)shirt-blouse, 3)pants, 4)original ammo belt with 4)cantin, 5) 22" Bayonet, 6)Mess kit, 7)foot powder. All items with U.S. markings. Lot accompanied by an original 8)1917 Winchester 30.06 Rifle.
The Winchester WWI rifle is stamped "U.S. Model Of Winchester 1917 with serial number 475999". This rifle is much scarcer than Remington's, which also supplied rifles to the army at that time. To the best of our knowledge the uniform and equipment belonged to one individual. It was obtained by a collector from a family descendant. The canteen carries two hearts with the initials "S C H", and on the side of the canteen, the name "Hernandez" is etched in.
The rifle may be of separate origin. Our research shows WWI soldiers normally were not allowed to take their rifles home with them. This rifle is super clean in mechanism and in working order. It has been varnished many years ago for display. It carries four punched nail holes in the stock indicating (we surmise) four "kills". The rifle did come with the uniform group but we do not guarantee that it was a part of the owners original possessions.
