General Anthony Wayne – Uniform Order

col_wayne1.jpg

A hand penned order (Circa 1770’s) for cloth material used for making a uniform for Col. (Anthony) Wayne.
Col. Wayne was in charge of the 4th Pennsylvania Brigade at this time. During the revolutionary war he rose to the rank of general. He was the hero of the “battle of Paoli”. He was known as “Mad” Anthony Wayne because of his daring in battle encounters with the British. The list of materials totals over One hundred and twenty eight British Pounds and certainly a sumptuous uniform would have been the result of such an expenditure. The receipt is written on laid water mark paper and measures 6 ½” x 7 ½”. Old file fold creases and rough edging with some tiny hole separation at the folds. Otherwise a rare early momento of the Revolutionary War career of this illustrious General. From the Wayne-Ridgway Estate.

Charter of Privileges granted by William Penn

wpenn1.jpg

This is an original 1701 working copy of the Charter of Privileges granted by William Penn to the people of Philadelphia, dated August 25th, 1701. More than likely it is in the handwriting of William Penn’s secretary, James Logan. Penn’s signature ending this document is Secretarial (not his own hand), as it was a working copy. This copy was later expanded and the final presentation document and currently resides in the City of Philadelphia Archives. This copy is well worn with separations and age toning, but is significantly historical and rare, as a founding Charter of the Quaker City of Philadelphia.

Complete World War I US Army Uniform

wwII_full_uniform4.jpg

WWI First Division Corps of Engineers Sergeant

A complete original uniform of a WWI Corps of Engineers Sergeant (Indiana Division?). Lot consists of : 1)"Dough boy" Metal Hat with the number one insignia in yellow, 2)shirt-blouse, 3)pants, 4)original ammo belt with 4)cantin, 5) 22" Bayonet, 6)Mess kit, 7)foot powder. All items with U.S. markings. Lot accompanied by an original 8)1917 Winchester 30.06 Rifle.

The Winchester WWI rifle is stamped "U.S. Model Of Winchester 1917 with serial number 475999". This rifle is much scarcer than Remington's, which also supplied rifles to the army at that time. To the best of our knowledge the uniform and equipment belonged to one individual. It was obtained by a collector from a family descendant. The canteen carries two hearts with the initials "S C H", and on the side of the canteen, the name "Hernandez" is etched in.

The rifle may be of separate origin. Our research shows WWI soldiers normally were not allowed to take their rifles home with them. This rifle is super clean in mechanism and in working order. It has been varnished many years ago for display. It carries four punched nail holes in the stock indicating (we surmise) four "kills". The rifle did come with the uniform group but we do not guarantee that it was a part of the owners original possessions.

Price $2,700
